Merry Christmas!

Hope everyone had an amazing day!!  I know I sure did!  Spend my day with family and friends and am now able to unwind.  I have been M.I.A. lately because of the holidays.  Between work and trying to keep on task for holiday stuff I haven't had much time for anything else!  Here was one of my last NOTD's:

Milani Silver Dazzle!

This is from the newer One Coat Glitter collection.  This is 2 coats...I cheated!  You can definitely get away with doing only 1 coat if you are careful.  All of the denser colors in the collection are pretty amazing.  The glitter has a nice dimension and sparkle to them.  I think this is one of my favorite collections to have come out in 2010.

Now that Christmas is over I am hoping to pick things back up here on my blog.

Lastly, I have added a few new items to my sale.  You may be surprised what you find there!!

Happy Holidays!!  Looking forward to the New Year!!!

Colorama: Steel Wheeling

Love, love, love me some Colorama's!!!  I had been on the hunt for this particular color for about a year and one day it magically appeared in my mailbox!!  Never under estimate the power of nail polish love on the MUA nail care board!

This is 2 coats of Steel Wheeling over 1 coat of Icing Metalhead.  Steel Wheeling on it's own is rather sheer and would probably take 4 coats to be opaque.  Seeing as these bottles are so small, I didn't want to use it all up on a 4 coat mani!  This is a warm grey shimmer with tiny holo glitter sprinkled throughout it.  There are about 4-5 other Colorama's with this same finish...I'll have to dig them up and show them to you when I get the chance.

This is going to be my new nail length, if not shorter, for now.  I recently started to train for roller derby and I don't want to take the chance of breaking nails.  I refuse to stop polishing, but I am okay with having sexy nubs!!

ORLY Plum Pudding

Happy Saturday everyone!!  Hope you are all staying warm and dry today!

This is another old ORLY...it is from the same collection as Mistletoe I believe.  I think there was also a 3rd (maybe more) in the collection, Silent Night maybe?  It is a navy with glitter that is possibly the most hard to find of the 3.

This is 3 thin coats.  Again...old, thin formula in a giant bottle!!  The base on this one is disappointingly sheer and a bit frosty but, the color makes up for it.  I love a good holiday plum/purple color.

Have a great Saturday all!!

ORLY Mistletoe

Old, ORLY holiday. Anyone know when this was released? This is in one of ginormous bottles that old ORLY's used to come in...remember those?

This is 3 coats. The polish was very thin...and brush strokey because it is basically a frost with glitter. The color is beautiful but the finish is just ok. The glitter gets sucked into the fromst unfortunately and loses it's sparkle. All that considered, I still love it...but only for the holidays!!

Have a great weekend!

If you are interested, I am still running my blog sale HERE .  I have also added a sale tab towards the top of my page which I plan to update regularly.  And lastly, I am a member of MakeupAlley under the member name tjoyu where I keep an active (though not always exciting) swap list.

Revlon Streetwear: Villian

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Here is a great oldie but goodie I wore late last week.

This is 2 coats with my usual base and top coat combo. Streewear's formula is that old, thin, easy to use chemically loaded formula. I love the blue flash in this...it almost has a teal cast to it. Very pretty!!

Here is a closeup to hopefully convey they pretty blue/teal flash.

I really love old Streetwears! Not only did they have great colors but they were very well proced even for the late 90's when they were around. Thankfully, you can still pick a lot of these up online for a reasonable price. I am thankful that I have met some wonderful friends on MakeupAlley that have helpd me through swaps, RAOK's and sales to gather a very nice little collection of Streetwears.

Also, please check out my blog sale HERE!!  I have added a couple of new things and plan to update it as I continue to clean up, organize and purge my stash.

Have a great Thanksgiving and be safe out there if you plan on doing the crazy Black Friday madness!!

Big ol' blog sale!! Some prices reduced, new makeup items added!! 11/30

As the holidays approach...I start to panic because I hate shopping!! I always tend to sock away a little extra money so I can buy my son and DF a little surprise. Unfortunately, with the economy being what it is these days, I realized I did not save as much as I wanted this year. I never thought to have a sale so close to the holidays because the post office is always a mess after Thanskgiving until the New Year passes. I am willing to make the exception this year because, heck...what is Christmas with a little surprise under the tree?

Please have a look. If you are interested in anything please send your request to yesterdaysnail@gmail.com

All prices are firm. I accept paypal payments ONLY (once we finalize a sale I will send you my PP address) I would like to enforce a $10 minimum but I am willing to make exceptions. US shipping is $2 for the first bottle, $0.50 each additional or I can do a small flat rate box/envelope if it goes over $5.50. DC is extra. $0.80 on all packages except flat rate...which costs $0.70. International shipping is availabe and I will give you a rate prior to finalizing according to the USPS website. I am not interested in swapping for anything at this time from this sale. If you would like photos of anything, please ask. I haven't had time to photograph anything so it will be on a as needed basis.
All items are not used unless otherwise specified. I have a non smoking home but I do have 4 small dogs...they do not have access to my polish room but you may get a stray hair on packing tape. If something is lined out it means it is paid for already.

Thanks for looking!!

OPI Espresso Your Style

OPI Espresso Your Style
Originally uploaded by tjoyu
Ok, I hadn't planned to post this NOTD as a blog entry any time soon. Or did I already post it...I can't remember right now. The main reason I am posting it is I am a little irked. I was browsing ebay this morning while drinking my morning cup and yelling passionately at the my beloved Minnesota Vikings on the tube. While browsing, I come across an auction for OPI Espresso Your Style...that has a picture of my nails as the description photo...WTF chuck?!?!? I have read many times about sellers doing this and had wondered how I would feel if it ever happened to me. Well, it doesn't feel too good. It actually makes me pretty damned pissed off!! I never realize how much work goes into taking a NOTD shot...the actual mani, clean up, trying to take a perfect shot, choosing between multiple photos then editing them and making them with my blog name. When I am going through the process it is actually kind of fun. Time consuming but fun. But, I go through all this work for my blog...not for some idiot to just use my picture to sell a product.
*enter emoticon pulling it's hair out while screaming GAH! -here-*
Thanks for letting me rant....

This is 2 coats of Espresso Your Style....

Brucci Amelia's Amethyst

PURPLE!!! This polish makes me understand why I love purple so much! This has such a gorgeous glow to it. If you look carefully there are tiny red sparkles in there too. This is 2 coats. The picture was taken in direct sun so you can really see the glow and the shimmer. In low light it still has the glow but is a bit deeper purple.
I wish I could tell you where Brucci polish is available...I wish I had it easily available to me! All of my Brucci's have come from friends on the east coast in swaps. I think I have about a dozen colors but I love them all!

I love the gold/copper glitter floating around in this one! I don't think I have anything similar to this in my whole stash even now. I really like Duri polishes but only have a small handful of them.

This photo was taken 8/8/09...I can't believe how time flies!! I have lots of editing to do so you may see a few of these random and older photos in the next week or so.

Nail Sparks!

Today I finally have a little bit of Japan to show you! I was a little bummed at my small haul I brought back from Japan but what I did bring back made me happy.

These are all from a line called Nail Sparks. None of them had names or color numbers on them so I really don't know how to label them. I think I'll keep it simple and just use the color as the name!

This is Fucshia Spark! This is only 2 coats and could have used a 3rd to be completely opaque. As you can tell, there is still VNL with only 2 coats. This is a very pretty, bright fuschia with a ton of small shimmer and larger glass fleck shimmers (which unfortunately got a little washed out from the bright sun).

This is Purple Spark! This is 2 coats and was completely opaque. I love, love, love this color! I love purples in general and this one did not disappoint. I'm sure I have something similar to this in my stash but nothing is an exact dupe. This also has that same shimmer/fleck finish to it.

This one is my favorite of the 3 I have shown you...I call this one Tesl Spark!! This is 3 coats...and a little tip wear (sorry!!) as I wore this for 4 days! I actually took this shot on the 4th day too! Again, same shimmer/fleck finish but in a gorgeous teal green shade! I think this may be similar in color to Shina Glaze Watermelon Rind but I have not compared the 2 yet.

I bought all of these at a Daiso in Machida, Japan. A Daiso, in case you are wondering, is basically a GIANT dollar store. The majority of the items are 100 yen (roughly $1.15) so I stocked up on as much as I could carry in my luggage without going over weight!

Hope you're all having a great week so far!!

Keeping it simple...

I have gotten a little behind with editing my NOTD shots lately. I have quite a few things to post but they are not edited and I always get distracted reading other people's amazing blogs instead of working on my own!! Today I spent a little time cleaning up my Photobucket and came across a NOTD that was already edited (YAY!!) but it is such a simple color (BOO!!). I thought I'd go ahead and post it anyways and profess my love!

Wet n Wild Black Creme...the most amazing black creme nail polish for the price! Actually, if this was priced the same as other salon brands I think I would still buy it. It can be opaque in 1 thick, neat coat but I prefer to do 2. The finish is super shiny, even before a top coat. I never get chips with any of the WnW creme colors and this one was no exception.
It had been so long since I wore a straight up black mani...no layering, no stamping, nada. It was a nice break and look so neat and chic!!

Hope you are all enjoying your "extra" hour due to daylight savings time. I know I did!

Maybelline: Jungle Green

Welcome to the jungle...king of the jungle...jungle boogie...deep in the jungle...

The name of this polish had me thinking of all the "jungle" sayings I could come up with!! OK...to keep with the jokes, this polish is kind of a joke. I had been wanting this forever and finally got it from a generous swapper on MakeupAlley.

If you look at the bottle it has a very cool green sheen to it. Unfortunately it does not translate to the nail very well. The base color is a muddy plum color. The coverage on this was not very good either as you can see on my pinky...and this was 2 coats. I usually love most old Maybellines but this one...not so much. Back into the swap box this will likely go.

Revlon: Silver

The name to this one...doesn't compute with me. When I think of a polish named silver I am expecting glitter or shimmer or even a bit of a frosty metallic. This is so far away from a traditional idea of "silver"

But, it was still a great color! Great pale, true grey creme. This photo iwas taken in the shade so it gives it a slight beige tone to it. In the sun it is truly grey. This is 2 coats. I am in love with Revlon brushes. They fit my nail shape perfect!! One day I will have to take a picture of my Revlon stash...it surprised me that I had as many as I do.

Have a great week! Congratulations to the SF Giants!!

NARS Purple Rain

Happy hump day!! Today is Wednesday and I am so glad...because it's all downhill to the weekend from here!!

I have a major love for all polishes named Purple Rain (cue Prince music)...

This has to me my ulitmate favorite of the Purple Rain polishes I have so far. I wish I could have got a better shot of this one but unfortunately the sun was hiding this day. You can see the slight color shift in the bottle in the photo. You definitely get the color shift on the nails IRL too. Gorgeous shimmery, almost metallic and not quite frosty purple. Love, love love!!!

Enjoy the rest of your week!!!

OPI: Vampire State Building

Halloween is lurking around the corner and it makes me want to pull out my bloody reds!! This is a perfect bloody, almost dried blood red creme!

2 coats of old school, old formula OPI! And, I am almost embarassed to say...this is the 1st time I have worn this one!

What polishes make you think of Halloween?

SH Golden Ticket

Happy Friday...oh yes indeed! It's been a long a tiring week and I am glad to be sitting on my couch at this exact moment! I'm still having a little jet lag I think because my sleep has been pretty screwed up.

Last week I found a display of the new SH CSM holiday/fall polishes. I only picked up a few and this was the one I was immediately drawn to! I am in love with gold polishes right now and this one fit right into the gold obsession!

This is 3 coats. IRL it has a rose gold tint to it. Or at least that's how it looks on my skin tone. The glitter is a little gritty but smooths out with a decent top coat. I used SV here and it was completely smooth. Since this is a glitter, I got a bit of a workout trying to remove it!!

Have a great weekend!!

I'm back from my international adventure!

Konichiwa!!!

Can you tell from my salutation where I went for my vacation?? JAPAN!!

I had a couple of very good polish experiences and 2 not so good ones!!

The not so good ones were: finding an awesome nail supply shop with tons of Japanese brand polishes...but being asked to leave the store because I was not a member nor eligable for a membership. And, dropping my cute little Anna Sui bag with 2 polishes on the train tracks while I was digging something out of my purse. Boooooooo!!

My win was finding a very well stocked nail section at a very large Daiso (which is very similar to a dollar store except it was about 5 stories tall!!) Here is a picture of one of the nail polish aisles.

Here are just a few shots of what I bought.

The 1st 3 are holo polishes. Very similar texture as OPI DS holos bt not unique.

The 1st 3 bottles in this shot are all very sheer so I will be using them as top coats. Pink, red and teal shimmers, very similar to the CND effects!

These are my favorites of the lot! These all have a very nice glass fleck shimmer quality tot hem. I am in love with the deep teal and the purple.

Some glitters and cute little bunny bottles!

Random glitters and shimmers. The last one is very similar to ORLY Royal Navy but it a bit of purple in it.

Check out how cute this bottle is!!

Unfortunately the polish inside was very thick and would hardly move! It required TONS of thinner to make it useable. I am hoping to get some of these into my mani rotation soon so keep an eye out if you are interested!

I'm on an adventure!!

Hi!!! Sorry for the lack of posting recently...I am off on a little international adventure!

I should be back to "normal" in about a week and I hope to have some fun, new things to show you!!

Finger Paints: Bada Bing, Bada Blue

I'm not usually one to feel I need wear seasonal colors but this one just makes me feel like it's fall already! This is a metallic blue which has a heavy dose of grey in it to make it very dusty. This is 2 coats. The new fall collection for Finger Paints has a very close version of Bada Bing, Bada Blue. The only difference I can see is one has slightly larger shimmer particles in it.

I'm not sure when this came out. I'm sure it was before I got way into polish collecting though as I don't recall seeing this color in the store.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend and will ease smoothly into Monday! :o)

Revlon matte suede: Ruby Ribbon

For the holidays, it seems as though Revlon has jumped on the red/green/white collection bandwagon. I can't conplain though because they did put a little twist on it. They are a shimmery matte/suede finish!! Very pretty in the bottle and on the nail.

This mini collection (if that is what these 4 new colors had intended to be) consists of a dark red, a bright cherry red, a forest/emerald green and a icy white.

This is Ruby Ribbon, the darker red in the set. This is 2 coats. THe formula was surprisingly easy to work with. Some mattes/suedes dry so fast you have to have near perfect timing when applying them. This was a little more forgiving-thankfully!! It has a very cool shimmer in it...literally cool!! It looks also blue toned or icy blue to me.

Here's a closeup to get a better look at the shimmer and finish.

I found these at Target in the regular display in their own labeled slots. I was amazed that polish at Target is so much cheaper than anywhere else!! I paid $3.89-ish for each of these.

Hopefully I will get around to wearing the other 3 colors to show how nice they are.

Precision: Twilight Zone

Yes, I have changed the look of my blog. I am experimenting a little as the last layout was super generic looking...well, more generic looking than this. I was looking for something with a white background to have a better background for the polish colors. The purple-ish background was clashing with some of the photos I thought. How's this one? Any suggestions? Yay? Nay?

This is Precision Twilight Zone. I don't know why I had been saving this for so long. I love purple and I love holo and this has both! The base is a shimmery metallic base...maybe bordering on the verge of being frosty? Even if it is I still really like it! The holo glitter is tiny and sparse but really sparkles in the sun. This is very close to an older China Glaze whose name escapes me at the moment =/
3 thin coats as this polish is thin overall.
Have a great weekend!!

Urban Decay: Twisted

blarg....I've got some sort of upper respiratory crap going on right now! I am not feeling too well. One of the patients where I work broke a fire sprinkler and flooded the hallway where my office is. They have been trying to clean it and dry the carpet since Monday and have these huge industrial fans blowing 24/7. Well, these fans...combined with all the old residue of cleaning chemicals and various bodily fluids that have made their way into the rug by various patients over the years...are blowing all the microscopic yuck into the air I have to breathe 8 hours a day!! Now I've got a runny nose and congestion and the beginnings of a cough. I am begging to have the carpet torn out and some sort of hard, non porous flooring be put in. End of rant...on to a recent NOTD...

For some reason I have been lusting after a perfect gold polish. Not too yellow or warm, not too cool or antiqued. This one here is pretty close for me! This is 3 coats with my usual base and top combo.

Here it is a little closer to hopefully show the little sparkly bits. Old UD is not too hard to find if you look. I've found most of mine on ebay in the past few months for realy great/reasonable prices.

Sonia Kashuk: Taunting Teal

This is the 1st SK polish I have tried and I loved it. The formula was very cream and easy to apply. Very pigmented and could have been a 1 coater. SK is a Target exclusive brand I believe. My Targets had not had gotten any SK polishes in the past so I was a bit surprised when I came across these.
For some reason, this is coming across way more dusty and blue in this photo than IRL. It really is a true, deep teal creme.

Sorry guys...I am not feeling to great so this is going to be a very short post. Hope you all have a great week.

Precision: Shine, Wine and Dine

This is just a bit of a testament to how much I really like Precision polishes! This was my 2nd one in a week.

This is 3 thin coats of color. Very pretty berry-wine shimmer with tiny holo glitter in it. I wish the holo glitter showed up more in this picture, but IRL it really pops...especially under the sun.

I have only found 1 place that sells Precision polish unfortunately. I think they have a website you can order direct from possibly.

Finger Paints: If It Ain't Baroque, Don't Fix It

I was having a hard time figuring out what I wanted to wear when I picked this one. You would think...having a modestly sized stash one would be able to pick something pretty quick-right? Ummm, no. I basically put my hand in the drawer and pulled out a polish sight unseen. This is what I chose. And it made me happy!

2 coats with my usual base and top coat combo. This is a luscious, vibrant berry creme. I've had this untried for a year or more and was glad I finally did wear it.

FInger Paints always comes out with some great colors. Though they may not all be unique, they usually have a few winners in each new collection that comes out.

Precision: The After After Party

I never thought I'd be a blue lover...I pledged my love to purples long ago. This color has made me feel ok to be cheating on purple!

Navy shimmer with more shimmer! This is 2 coats over my regular base coat combo and 1 coat of the Supply Source topcoat. Yeah, I have way too much SS t/c...I need to use it. It likes Precision so everyone was happy.

I have always been very pleased with Precision polishes. I have about a dozen or so and don't have a bad thing to say about any of them.

MAC Concubine

Did I really need another red glittery polish? After seeing this one, I would say YES!

This is 2 coats...but it could have used a 3rd. This is a nice, true, blue based red with shimmers that remind me of glass flecks. This shimmers have a uniform shape like glitter but are not gritty at all. You can see them in the bottle very clearly but not on my nail in this photo very well...she was a little hard to photograph!

The MAC formula has been getting better IMO. Some of the others that I have are a bit thick and goopy. This was thinner than previous polishes and applied smoothly. I really like the brush on the MAC polishes but I hate the way the round cap feels in my fingers as I paint. Enjoy!!

Color Club Snakeskin

This new Color Club collection is full of hits and a few misses. This is one of the hits! Charcoal metallic with tiny gold shimmers. I wish I got a better picture of this to show off the gold shimmers...but trust me, they're in there. I bought a few others from this latest collection and will hopefully get around to wearing them soon. I am especially excited to get Untamed Luxury...all the pictures I've seen of it so far are so pretty!

This is 3 thin coats over 1 coat of SH NQ and 1 coat of Gelous.

Nubar Purple Rain Glitter

I only wanted to see you laughing in the Purple Rain...

I am on a mission to collect as many polishes named Purple Rain (or Reign...) as I can. This may be one of my favorites so far! Deep purple jelly-ish base with dark purple and holo gitter. 3 coats.

This photo was taken on day 4 of wear. I have recently started to use Gelous and I swear my mani's are lasting longer!

Have a great week everyone!!

Essie Sew Psyched

I love fall and winter polish collections!! THis year is no exception! I love that most of the collections come out towards the end of summer...makes me long for leaves falling, wind chill and wearing boots!

This is 2 coats of Sew Psyched. The formula on this was very nice. Opaque in 2 coats but could have possibly done 1 if it wasn't as thick. This is one of my new favorite polishes for this coming season. Perfect grey with a touch of green and hidden shimmer!!

Here is the same mani topped with 1 coat of Savvy Knightly Armour. A great $1.99 sale find from Sally's! This looks like a pale grey/lavender in the bottle but it applies supper sheer and is likely made for layering. I thought the combo looked great together and made the grey really pop.
I'm looking forward to trying a few more of the new fall Essie's.

Essence Surfer Babe: The World's Coolest

Happy Friday everyone!!!

I really liked this color! The man of the house happened to choose this one and I think he chose wisely!!
The World's Coolest is a light blue that has just a touch of grey and a tinge of green which makes it a little dusty IRL. This is 2 coats. It applied very evenly except the brush bristles were cut on a slight angle so it was hard to get a straight line at the cuticle without having to use a clean up brush afterwards. This is not the 1st Essence polish I bought that had an angled brush...maybe they are meant to be that way? The Surfer Babe collection is a LE collection I believe and I found this at Ulta for $1.99. The bottle is 8ml which is smaller than average but for $1.99, the price is right!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Nubar Caramello

YAY!!!! A warm gold that actually looks decent on me!! I really love gold polish but for some reason I don't like the way it looks on me. I have warm undertones to my skin that makes me almost red when mixed with a warm toned gold. But, for some reason...this doesn't make me look red at all! I think it makes me look tan and fancy!

2 coats and the application was very nice. I don't have many Nubar's but I think I will be working through the ones I have a little quicker in hopes of similar application and wear.

Nicole Mattes

I feel like I am really behind on my blog posts. I've been reading alot lately and have a tendency to get so caught up in whatever book/s I may be reading.
I've also recently lost my beloved bird Chica. Some stupid idiot scared her when walking into our house and she flew out the door. We could hear her for a few days after she got out but now, we don't hear her at all. Hopefully she is safe or someone has taken her in.
Enough downer news...time to get back on topic.

Here are 3 recent NOTD's I did. These are the Nicole mattes which are basically the same as the OPI suedes...just new colors.

No Limits. I loved this one! It is a very dark blurple which has a bit more blue than purple. 2 coats. I didn't do so good getting the line straight along my cuticle so please excuse the sloppiness. I don't like to do clean up with a brush on the suedes because it usually takes the 1st layer of color and leaves the silvery glitter...makes the clean up look even messier IMO.

Virtuous Violet. 2 coats. Beautiful purple shimmer. I thought this one would be close to Zoya Savita so I had to swatch them side by side...

Not close at all!! Savita is a deeper shade of violet/purple. They are both beautiful colors though.

And last but not least...

Respect The World. A gorgeous teal blue shimmer. I did not have a dupe to this in my collection. The original Respect The World is not quite this same shade.

All of these were bought at WalMart about 1 month ago. I know I still see them there. In this collection there are 3 other colors. Wild Blue Yonder which is a mid tone blue shimmer, Positive Energy which is a silver shimmer and Shimmy Shimmer which is a charcoal shimmer which is almost black.

Hope you all have a great week!

Sally Hansen Royal Purple Chrome

OK, I'm sure you are tired of seeing purple, blue and green NOTD's from me...but, here's one more! I am stuck in a purple, blue and green rut and I'm not ashamed of it.

This is old Sally Hansen. I remember when the Chrome line came out. Back then I could buy the special collections at my local WalMart but now, they only carry core stuff..boooooo!! This one is Royal Purple Chrome. I think this was the 1st one from this collection that I bought. These are not good if you have ridges, as I do, as these are not very forgiving even with a good ridge filling base coat. But, I don't care!! I still love my chromes!

Streetwear Next Dimension

Streetwear Next Dimension
Is it a frost or is it a metallic? I don't know for sure. What I do know is that I love this shade of turquoise/teal. This was so nice to apply. Very thin and even coverage and not very streaky...which makes me not want to classify it as a frost. I really wish I could go back in time and buy all these great Streetwears when they came out. I remember my WalMart carried them and always had the LE or special collections when they came out. Back then my favorite was a frosty white called Whip Cream. I can't believe that I wore frosty white almost everyday...I can't stand frosty whites on me now. *sigh* the good stuff always goes away...

Chanel Red Dream

So, here we go...from $2 DC to $23 Chanel! I'm an equal opportunity polisher!!

This is Red Dream. I honestly don't know when this came out but I CAN honestly say it is gorgeous!

I got this from ebay from a friend who was having to unfortunately unload some of her polishes. I was more than happy to help her auction out and in turn I got a fabulous Chanel polish :o)

Deep red jelly finish with red glitter. I know there are many other polishes with this same finish but none are the exact same shade. This one is a bit deeper red than others I have.

aaaaahhhh....I love Chanel polishes but my pocketbook gives them the stink eye!
